  The Urban Winds Music Project

Alison Baker, Flute
Dr. Amy Burgus, Oboe
Paula Corley, Clarinet

The Urban Winds Music Project was founded in 2010 by flutist Alison Baker and clarinetist Paula Corley. “Music Project” suggests an open-ended, workin-progress which is just what this ensemble is about: exploring diversity in instrument groupings and chamber music literature.

Alison Baker holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin and from Florida State University. A native New-Yorker, Alison grew up in the Eastman Preparatory program and developed an interest in world music at an early age. She is quite the traveler, having most recently completed a three-year study of Kabuki music in Japan. Alison also performs with Charanga Si, a traditional Cuban Dance Band in Austin.

Dr, Amy Burgus is a busy free-lance musician in Central Texas, performing with the Round Rock, Victoria, Corpus Christi, and Austin Symphonies. She has served on the faculties of Texas A & M – Kingsville and Grinnell College and currently maintains an extensive private studio in Austin. She holds degrees from Luther College, the University of Iowa, and The University of Texas.

Paula Corley is a clarinet educator – from sixth grade to the collegiate level. She is the author of two books for developing clarinetists and has an extensive list of presentations including The International Clarinet Association, The Midwest Clinic, The University of Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium, Indiana University’s Clarinet Teaching Workshop and for the Arkansas, North Carolina, and Texas Music Educators associations. Before moving to Wimberley, Paula was on the faculty at Mars Hill College and served as Principal Clarinetist with the Asheville Lyric Opera. She is sponsored by Buffet Crampon USA and Vandoren USA.
