High School Competition

Students enrolled in Texas High Schools, grades 9-12 are eligible to compete in the high school solo competition but must complete the application process by the deadline! See the competition page for more information.

"Auditioning for College" presented by Mitchell Estrin

This class will be taught by Mitchell Estrin.

30 minute lecture
This class provides basic information about the college music 
application, visit, audition, and interview process for students and 
directors.
This class is designed for the high school sophomore and junior.

   

"Clarinet Doctor Problem Solving Class" presented by Howard Klug

This class will be taught by Howard Klug. See Performance Opportunities for details on how to apply to perform!

80 minute class
7 students performing, high school and collegiate
Dr. Klug will address specific concerns of the teacher in a “mini -
private lesson” with each student.
Students perform only with completed application.  Space is limited.

Clarinet Choir

Join other students from all around Texas to perform in a clarinet choir! This group will have age-appropriate literature for clarinet, bass clarinet, and contra clarinets!

   

"Performance Masterclass" presented by Mitchell Estrin

This class will be taught by Mitchell Estrin. See Performance Opportunities for details on how to apply to perform!

60 minute class
4 students performing, high school and collegiate
Students perform a short solo (5-7 minute max.) and get feedback from Mitchell Estrin.
Piano required if unless the solo is an unaccompanied work.
Students perform only with completed application.  Space is limited.  (See website for details.)

   

"Bass Clarinet Masterclass" presented by Michael Lowenstern

This class will be taught by Michael Lowenstern. See Performance Opportunities for details on how to apply to perform!

"Michael's masterclasses center around being a great performer as well as a great instrumentalist. Other weight is placed on creative use of improvisation (even in notated music when appropriate), extended techniques, finding the "funk" in rhythmic music, and discovering an independent voice as a musician. Lots of dogma."

4 students performing, high school and collegiate
Students perform a short selection (5-7 minute max.) and get feedback from Paula Corley.
Piano not required.
