Dr. Mary Alice Druhan is an internationally recognized clarinetist and has enjoyed invitations to many prestigious events as a soloist, as a member of Triforia Winds, and as a member of various ensembles.  These performances include several regional and national conferences of the College Band Directors National Association, the Texas Bandmaster’s Association Conference (2005), the Texas Music Educator’s Association Annual Conference (2004 and 2009), the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic (2006), the International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest (2006 and 2008), the International Harp Association Annual Conference (1998), the International Double Reed Society Annual Convention (2008 and invitation to 2009), the College Music Society International Conference (invitation to 2009), and the OU Clarinet Symposium (2006).

She is a founding member of Triforia Winds, the faculty woodwind trio at TAMU-C, which serves as an educational outreach program as well as a performance platform for standard repertoire and new compositions.  The ensemble has performed several U.S. and world premieres, including that of Triforia by composer, Ted Hansen, for which the ensemble was named.

She currently performs with the Dallas Wind Symphony and for the Color of Sound chamber series but has also performed as a member of the U.S. Army Band, “Pershing’s Own,” East Texas Symphony Orchestra, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, Plano Symphony Orchestra, Natchez Opera, Shreveport Opera, Sorg - Whitewater Opera, and Ohio Light Opera. 

Dr. Druhan has done an extensive amount of research in the area of multimedia music and has published related articles in The Clarinet, journal of the ICA.  In 2008 she presented a lecture and handout materials on the topic of getting started with multimedia music for the ClarinetFest in Kansas City.  The lecture was followed by her performance of three full-scale multimedia works for the clarinet.

She has been recognized as a soloist by many scholarships and awards, including Third Place for the Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies National Graduate Instrumental Performance Award (1993), The Carruth Jones Scholarship of the Baton Rouge Music Club (1993), the Ark-La-Tex Young Artist Concerto Competition (1989), and the Junior Music Festival Grand Prize for the National Society of Arts and Letters, Shreveport Chapter (1989).

She has performed in some of the finest concert halls throughout the United States including the DAR Constitution Hall, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Strand Theatre, Orpheum Theater, Meyerson Symphony Center, and the Eisemann Center.  She has been on stage in more than 20 states and Puerto Rico and has recently been invited to perform in Canada, Croatia, Macedonia, and England.

Dr. Druhan is currently Associate Professor of clarinet at Texas A&M University – Commerce and has held previous teaching positions at James Madison University and Louisiana State University.  She has also appeared as a guest artist/performer at Oklahoma State University, Texas Christian University, Ball State University, West Chester University, University of North Carolina- Greensboro, Centenary College, and Appalachian State University.  She continues to teach for select events such as the Dallas Wind Symphony Summer Music Institute, the annual Northeast Texas Clarinet Day, and Clarinet Solutions.

Her teachers include Diana Haskell, Timothy Wright, David Harris, Steven Cohen, and Ronald de Kant.  In masterclasses, she has performed for many artists, including Lawrence McDonald, the Moscow Trio, Eddie Daniels, John Mack, Wayne Rapier, Theodore Oien, Richard Halle, Stanley Hasty, Larry Combs, and Ricardo Morales.  She continues to host guest artists on the TAMU-C campus, including the West Point Clarinet Quartet, Baylor Woodwind Quintet, David Etheridge, Gary Whitman, Richard Shanley, Michael Norsworthy, and Greg Raden.

Dr. Druhan is a member of many professional music organizations, including ICA, SAI, TMEA, ACS, AFM-Dallas, SEAMUS, WKA, NACWPI, and is a member and regional officer for the College Music Society.
